Mike Kavanagh | John Scott | Richard "Barney" Biros | John Becker Mike Kavanagh, a Bay Area native, founded KCS in 2004 when he and his family settled in Mill Valley in southern Marin. Early in his technology career, Mike gained substantial experience with the Macintosh platform, including film and video production and post-production. In more recent years, working in a variety of fast-paced corporate and nonprofit settings, he has focused intensively on Windows networking.
Both as a contractor and as a manager of information systems, Mike has gained information technology experience at companies and organizations including CNET, Foote Cone and Belding, Scudder-Kemper Investments, TBWA Chiat-Day, Addison (marketing and branding), Arnold Communications (advertising), Rainforest Action Network (nonprofit environmental organization), and a Redwood City, CA elementary school. Each organization has had a unique culture, network and set of technology challenges.Mike is a graduate of San Francisco State University.
Well-versed in Windows and Linux networking, John is on-call for KCS for large-scale projects involving multiple servers and/or database and web server customization. Otherwise, he spends much of his time as Manager of Information Systems at a Marin environmental research company, where he supports more than 100 employees, including seven remote locations. John graduated from UC Berkeley in 1984 with a B.A. in Liberal Arts and subsequently pursued his talent and interests in computer programming and networking.
Barney is the KCS hardware guru and data recovery specialist. Barney earned his degree in Electrical Engineering at San Francisco State University in 1993. A true renaissance man, Barney enjoys tinkering with recycled electronic parts, building experimental electronic musical instruments, and playing in numerous bands with his hand-made Theremin. When not cavorting around Burning Man, he enjoys piecing together working computers from scrap and seamlessly getting them to run Windows, Mac OS or Linux. However, Barney's true genius reveals itself in recovering data from crashed hard drives. Unless a hard drive has taken a sulfuric acid bath or been dropped in the ocean, Barney has an amazing success rate in recovering lost data.
John Becker is KCS’s top-notch desktop support specialist. He has over ten years' experience supporting both Mac and PC computers, doing hardware, software and networking support. His corporate experience includes working at Colossal Films, Addison Design and SF CASA as a Network Administrator. John prides himself on being personable and friendly and being able to explain complex issues in lay terms. John graduated from University of Cincinnati in Ohio in 1994.
